Validation – Visualising and Utilising Skills

Even though many industries are in need of good labour, there are often missed opportunities in society when people’s skills arn’t taken advantage of.

A reason people’s skills can be overlooked is by being educated or having worked in a different country and therefore they don’t have the merits that the country they reside in requires. It may also be that someone has acquired skills other than at university such as with an apprenticeship. Validation can be a powerful and resourceful tool for utilising skills, and it also helps people work in the labour market.

Contento Wassum Academy had produced e-learning about validation
Validation is a process that values and acknowledges what people have learned, no matter where, when and how this learning has taken place. In the spring of 2017, at Contento Wassum Academy (CWA), on behalf of the National Agency for Education, we have developed a basic e-training course about validation. The e-training launches in August 2016 and is aimed at anyone who can come into contact with the validation process in their work.

An interesting and knowledgeable project for us
“As a scriptwriter, I love to get involved with areas of new knowledge and trainings, so it has been very exciting to develop this course,” says Andrea Brännström, scriptwriter at CWA.

“It has been very rewarding to learn a lot about such an important subject,” Andrea continues. “Our work can be of crucial importance to many people. If more people knew about the possibilities of validation, the labour market could look different.”

Our team has worked closely with the Swedish National Agency for Education
David Lundgren is the school’s project manager for the venture and worked in close cooperation with the CWA project team in the spring.

“I was very impressed by the scriptwriters ability to quickly get in to a whole new subject,” says David.

“And so, the process of designing the script has been useful to us as an organisation. As we have examined the script, we have gotten to the bottom of where we stand on different issues.”

Interactions and dramatic cases
The result of the validation work was theory-based and practical. The frame of the course is four reality-close cases that are featured as dramatised movies. By answering questions and solving problems, the participant continues through the training and continuously checks their own knowledge. In addition to the basic elements that serve as a broad introduction to validation, there is an extra section in the course filled with additional resources for those who want to learn more.
